On November 2, AISL Harrow Nanning, as the first stop of the event, was honoured to invite Ms. Jackee Ma, an admissions officer from the University of Warwick, one of the world-renowned British universities, to give a lecture.
In the first part of the sharing, Ms. Ma introduced the location, history of the school and various facilities of the University of Warwick in detail to the parents and students present and explained the advantageous subjects and application requirements of the University of Warwick. As a professional who has been engaged in British university admissions for a long time, Ms. Ma also explained to the audience how to better understand yourself and choose the university and major that best suits you.
It is very important for students to understand their academic interests, know their academic advantages, and understand the subject curriculum and geographical location of their favorite university when applying for university. At the same time, she suggested that everyone should explore subjects in advance in high school and fully evaluate themselves, so that they can take more initiative when applying to university.
As an admissions officer at a world-class university, she often receives materials from countless applicants from all over the world during the application season. How to stand out among many applicants and write your application materials well to attract the attention of admissions officers? Ms. Ma also shared her experience.
Admissions officers usually focus on three aspects of applicants’ materials: academic performance, excellent personal statements, and letters of recommendation from teachers. A personal statement can vividly portray your personal image, leave a deep impression on universities, and bring you more opportunities. Therefore, Ms. Ma also emphasised the importance of personal statements on the spot.
In a short personal essay, you need to clearly state a few questions: Why did you choose this major? In your past experiences, what have you done to explore and develop this major and related things? Why is this major suitable for you? You need to go through revisions of the first and second drafts, refine your past experiences, and revise it repeatedly until it fully demonstrates your personal qualities and professional traits.
The informative lecture gave the audience a better understanding of the University of Warwick and the applicants expected by prestigious overseas universities. After the sharing, many G10 students also asked Ms. Ma questions, hoping that they would have a more sense of purpose in their high school studies and sprint towards their favorite majors and colleges.
